Permaculture is the development of agricultural ecosystems intended to be sustainable and self-sufficient. It is a set of design principles centered on whole systems thinking, simulating, or directly utilizing the patterns and resilient features observed in natural ecosystems.
As a farmer, writer, and researcher for a magazine publisher specializing in healthy living alternatives, Jean Nick has been interested in applying permaculture methods to Happy Farm for quite a while. There are already quite a few fruit trees and berry bushes growing here, and a lot of space for more fruit and nut trees, and a variety of healthy organic food that can be grown here.
Apple and pear trees line the gravel road that brings you into Happy Farm. Our homestead is almost a quarter mile from the paved road that is the western boundary of the property.
